Thanks for visiting website of Comat! As an experienced tinplate sheet coil manufacturer in China, Comat provides a line of tinplate sheet that is compliant with GB/T 2520-2000, JIS G3303-2002 and DIN EN 10203-1991 standards. To help customers better understand the tinplate sheet coil and choose the right product, in the following we will explain to you tinplate in terms of concept, properties, applications, and more.
1. What's Tinplate?
Tinplate, also known as , refers to the cold rolled low carbon thin steel sheet with both sides coated with commercial pure tin, which primarily functions to prevent corrosion and rust. The tinplate incorporates steel rigidity and mouldability with tin corrosion resistant property, weldability and beauty, achieving strong corrosion resistance, non-toxicity, high strength and high malleability. It has wide applications in many manufacturing processes and industries of packaging, construction and domestic appliances.
2. Properties
A. Tinplate is characterized by its thin gauge, which is between 0.13mm and 0.49mm.
B. Tinning of the tinplate is achieved in a continuous electrolytic process.
3. Advantages
In addition to thin gauge, the tinplate also boasts mechanical properties with a wide range from 230 to 620MPa. Hence, it suits the needs in multiple forming processes and various industries.
The tinplate is available in varied surface finishes, with three different levels of roughness.
Like other steel, tinplate is easy for recycling in line with environmental protection requirements.
Also, with high opacity, and excellent sealing property, tinplate provides ideal protection for food, beverage, and other substances when made into packaging containers.
4. Applications
Particularly suitable for use in the packaging industry, tinplate can also be applied in the following areas.
In the home: cake tins, gas canister components, etc
In the fast food restaurant: coffee tins, cola tins, etc
Electrical and electronic equipment: batteries, electrical components, etc
Automotive components: cylinder head gaskets, oil filters, etc
Building trade: false ceiling rails, space bars for double glazing, light reflectors, radiator fins, reinforced tape, etc
5. Formability
Deep drawing
Some types of tinplate display excellent deep-drawing property because of a high Lankford coefficient (or coefficient of anisotropy) associated with low in-plane anisotropy, which ensures near-identical performance irrespective of the orientation of the deformation in relation to the rolling direction.
Bending, rolling
Thanks to its high level of ductility (for steel with low mechanical properties) and near-isotropic properties, tinplate can withstand severe bending or rolling.
Expansion, embossing, beading
Tinplate is well suited to mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic expansion. Its expansion capacity by pneumatic or hydraulic means can be up to 30%.
6. Recommendations for use
Cutting
Tinplate is especially suitable for shearing (guillotine) and punching.
Joining
Several joining techniques may be used for tinplate, such as riveting, stapling and welding (resistance seam welding, in particular).
Lacquering and printing
Tinplate can be lacquered in sheets or in coils.
Strong adhesion can be achieved through organosols and acrylics, with other types of lacquer also applicable, such as epoxy-phenolics, polyesters, and others.
With anamorphic techniques, flat printing can be carried out before forming.
Firing temperature must not exceed 210℃.
There must be no or minimum oiling before lacquering in order to prevent wetting problems with the lacquer.
